World of Work: Spotlight on Sustainability Sessions

Monday, April 3rd, 2023

A recent addition to our World of Work programme, Sustainability Sessions involve students completing a challenge, task or activity within the realm of sustainability. Students are tasked to discuss, think, research and arrive at their own answers or ideas on topics such as biodiversity, fast fashion, circular economy and carbon footprints.

Through these sessions, companies are able to share their own sustainability strategies within their industry, giving students a first-hand view into future of sustainable business as well as the current and future career opportunities in these areas.

Britvic and Deansrath CC: Students were given the task to consider how to make the Deposit Return Scheme a success.

As part of their session with Kingspan, students from Inver College, Co. Monaghan were hard at work designing posters on sustainability!

Students from St. Joseph’s Rush show off their sustainable t-shirt designs as part of the World of Work Programme with Fujitsu.

Thanks to the success of these sustainability sessions and the fantastic engagement from our partnerships, we are delighted to share the launch of a national Sustainability Competition for all of our schools who participate in World of Work! The main aim is for a practical solution to a problem to be presented on the theme of ‘How can I make my world more sustainable?’ Entries are to feature projects that focus on a practical home or school-based project. For example, a litter pick, increasing recycling in your school, proposing ways to reduce their partner company’s energy usage and many more! There is plenty of room for creativity and innovation, so aim high!
