Mary O’Connor is a 6th year student in Holy Rosary College in Mountbellew, Co.Galway. She is a talented and creative artist who is neurodivergent. Thanks to Iarnod Eireann for their active involvement in the Next STEP programme and for exhibiting her collection which showcases the diversity of neurodivergent people and the range of creativity that can be harnessed through art.

BITCI’s Next STEP pilot programme seeks to improve access to, and opportunities for, a positive and successful transition to post-school life for students with disabilities. The programme works with schools and companies to support the career readiness of students through guest speakers, workshops, CV preparation, interview skills, site visits and work experiences.

Andrea Lasenby Simpson, BITCI Head of Education said “this is a wonderful opportunity for Mary to display her amazing talent and could help her make a career out of her art. Already she has sold some of her pieces from the collection. Huge thanks to Iarnod Eireann for their encouragement of Mary and their involvement in our Next STEP programme. This pilot is all about unlocking opportunities for young people with disabilities so they too can have their dream job”.
