Coillte, Ireland’s semi-state forestry company, has been awarded its first Business Working Responsibly Mark from Business in the Community Ireland. The Mark has recognised that Coillte is in-line with best-in-class sustainable and responsible business practices and is an organisation that fosters a culture of continuous improvement and ongoing accountability throughout its business. Coillite is Ireland’s largest forester and producer of certified wood and Ireland’s largest provider of outdoor recreation.
The Mark is a leading standard for sustainability and responsible business in Ireland and is verified following an independent audit by the National Standards Authority of Ireland.
Coillte received the Mark for presenting, among other achievements, a comprehensive set of strategies to support the Government’s 2050 targets, solid evidence of life cycle management, including carbon capture and sustainable use of timber as a durable building product, a strong dedication to stakeholder engagement and a commitment to workplace inclusivity.
Imelda Hurley, CEO of Coillte said:
“The Mark represents the gold standard for corporate responsibility and is recognition of our continued commitment to imbed the four pillars of sustainability into our core business practices. “As custodian of Ireland’s State forests and an important stakeholder within our national response to the climate emergency, we have a deep understanding of the necessity to ensure that we are upholding the highest standards throughout our activities. This Mark allows us to showcase the good work currently being done, as well as providing a roadmap to continue to enhance our sustainable policies and practices into the future as we remain focused on delivering the multiple benefits from our forests for climate, nature, wood and people.”
Tomás Sercovich, CEO, Business in the Community Ireland said:
“We applaud Coillte for attaining the Business Working Responsibly Mark and for using it to drive sustainability across all three of their operating divisions. They showed leadership and commitment throughout the entire process. They successfully used the Mark framework to challenge, unite and drive themselves to deliver the ongoing transformation needed to address the sustainability challenge. We are delighted to have Coillte join our collective movement for change.”
