Deloitte Ireland supports the environment

Overview of the Partnership

Responding to the desire from their people to have the opportunity to work towards a greener future for Ireland, Deloitte decided to pursue a partnership with Leave No Trace, to make a positive impact on both their external and internal environments.

Over the course of 2019, over 150 Deloitte volunteers undertook five clean ups in different parts of Leinster, to total over 1,100 hours of volunteering. From along the banks of the canal in Dublin City, to the Dublin Mountains, and the Bray to Greystones walk, volunteers combed footpaths, waterways and trails cleaning as they went and taking the opportunity to appreciate the beautiful landscapes and habitats of Ireland.

Implementing Best Practise

To further enhance this partnership, and as part of their ambition to transition to a plastic free office, the Deloitte Green Team began selling keep cups to Deloitte people for a minimal donation of €5 per cup, the proceeds of which all went to Leave No Trace. The Deloitte canteens are now plastic free. Employees are encouraged to bring their own lunchboxes to the Deli, and single use plastic food containers have been replaced with compostable containers.

The Impact of the Partnership

These combined efforts have resulted in donations of almost €12,000 to Leave No Trace, a combination of donations by the firm, and the amounts raised through the sale off keep cups. This has resulted in a vested interest by Deloitte people in a greener Ireland. This partnership has helped to further Deloitte Ireland’s commitment toward goals 13, 14 and 15 of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
