FBD launches Champions for Change Farm Safety Campaign
A long-standing supporter of farm safety initiatives, FBD is now calling out to all agri organisations and farmers to stand up and become a Champion for Change.
With farm deaths doubling in the last year to 30, FBD is now urging farmers nationwide to stop taking risks and become a champion for change. FBD has welcomed the support of Connacht Football players to help raise the profile of farm safety and the need for a change in behaviour towards risk on the farm.
From the outset of the FBD Connacht GAA Senior League championship on 4th January, FBD received support from key Connacht football players who are all active farmers and together have created a series of videos that outline safety issues relating to every farm.
FBD Risk Manager and Vice Chairman of the Farm Safety Partnership, Ciaran Roche, has been championing the farm safety cause for many years and said at the launch; “Anyone who has ever made and broken a New Year Resolution can appreciate the difficulty of behaviour change. Making a lasting change in behaviour is rarely a simple process, and usually involves a substantial commitment of time, effort and emotion. Many unsafe practices on Irish farms are learned behaviours which have been passed down for generations, but is it fair to pass these onto the next generation? With this in mind it is imperative that we target the farmers of the future as well as the farmers of today.”
To help remind people to stop and think before approaching tasks on the farm, FBD has developed new Champions for Change farm safety packs and signage which will be delivered through key channels around the country, details to be revealed as new partners sign up to the Champions for Change campaign. In addition, to help keep farm families safer, FBD has committed to undertaking 30,000 farm visits throughout 2015 to undertake insurance surveys and to help farmers identify areas where safety could be improved.
