Business in the Community Ireland created the Business Impact Map back in 2010 as a way to communicate and showcase what member companies were doing for their local communities across the country on a county by county basis.
From our experience, our members were making significant impacts on social issues but struggled with measuring and communicating those impacts. The Map provided a tool to address both those issues in an interactive and engaging way.
The map has grown year on year and the latest version profiles the community reach of our member companies. Companies in any membership stream gets access to the Map and can utilise it to promote their community and employee engagement to all internal and external stakeholders.
Increasingly when recruiting, we are finding that member companies are utilising the Map to demonstrate their commitment to local communities as well as showcasing volunteering opportunities to potential hires. In addition, the Business Impact Map has been used in inductions for new staff, at supplier roadshows and to investors.
Finally, the Map also showcases trends in employee engagement. For example this year’s statistics demonstrated a significant move away from purely fundraising activities to more employee centric activities such as skills based volunteering.
