Major employers not only bring business to a region, but can influence and have a lasting impact on the lives of employees, customers, suppliers and the local community. Donor Advised Funds provide a convenient, flexible way for your business to show it cares about its local community and build awareness about community needs.

A Donor Advised Fund is typically less costly and time consuming to administer than other forms of philanthropic giving such as a private foundation, but it still allows you to establish a charitable legacy in the name of your business and fulfil multiple charitable interests.

The Community Foundation for Ireland, through its Donor Advised Funds can enable you and your staff to make a lasting impact at a grassroots level by identifying the very best projects for support. Several companies have established their own named charitable funds here at The Community Foundation for Ireland, often with the involvement of employees. Examples include eBay, SAP, Xilinx and BT Ireland. We administer the company’s charitable fund and advise the companies on how to best allocate their grant making. With our database of over 3,000 charities, community and voluntary groups, The Community Foundation for Ireland can help you effectively match the funding you have available, to the causes that matter most to your company and your employees while adhering to the highest professional standards.

Setting up a Donor Advised Fund can also be a fantastic way to celebrate a company’s centenary year or other special milestone or achievement.

How it works

  • Your company makes a gift to The Community Foundation for Ireland – you can give cash, shares, property or other assets
  • We set up a special fund in your company’s name.
  • Your company receives tax benefits in the year your gift is made; the company will claim a deduction for the charitable donation as if it were a trading expense.
  • You (or a team of employees) recommend uses for the fund – working with our professional programme staff to support the causes and organisations you care about most.
  • We handle all the administrative details and issue grants to charities in the name of the fund you establish (if you prefer, grants can be made anonymously).
