BITCI News - Jul 09, 2017

Business in the Community Ireland (BITCI) recently announced that medical technology company Cook Medical has joined its business network of over 85 companies dedicated to responsible business and sustainability.

BITCI is a non-profit business network dedicated to supporting companies of all sizes on their sustainability journey. It is the only network of its kind in Ireland with members including some of Ireland’s largest companies.

Established in 1996, Cook Medical employs 850 people at its site in the National Technology Park, Castletroy in Limerick. Cook Medical develops, manufactures and distributes medical devices to customers across Europe, the Middle-East and Africa. Cook Medical works with healthcare professionals to develop technologies that eliminate the need for open surgery and deliver better patient outcomes.

Commenting on the decision to become a member of BITCI, Bill Doherty, Executive Vice President, EMEA at Cook Medical said:

“We’re very proud to be joining the BITCI network of sustainable businesses. According to a recent report launched by Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise and Innovation Frances Fitzgerald T.D., the vision for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is that Ireland will be recognised as a Centre of Excellence for responsible and sustainable business through CSR best practice. During a time of great progression in this area, we have a future vision to develop our sustainability standards and are delighted to be guided by the BITCI network.

Welcoming Cook Medical to the network, Tina Roche, CEO of BITCI stated:

“We are delighted to be welcoming Cook Medical to the BITCI network. Business reputation has been firmly in the spotlight for the last few years, so, the uptake in membership of the network demonstrates that companies are still focused on transforming their businesses in order to have a positive impact on society. We are delighted to welcome Cook Medical as new members and look forward to working with them on their sustainability journey. Our network in Limerick is growing and we encourage companies in the area to address sustainability in a strategic way.
