DAA & St. Finian’s celebrate 10 years of Partnership

2This academic year marks the DAA’s tenth year of involvement in the Schools’ Business Partnership. Over the last 10 years the DAA has been partnered with St. Finian’s Community College, Swords. Through the Skills @ Work programme the DAA is helping students from the school to bridge the gap between education and the working world.

On a recent visit to the airport, a group of 40 LCVP students from the school were introduced to the airport business before heading airside for a tour of the new T1 retail offering. The emphasis of the day was on the variety of jobs available in an airport as well as the benefits of continuing in education. Most of all the importance of enthusiasm and showing an eagerness to learn was highlighted.

3The students were expertly guided through the Loop by retail staff who offered a fascinating insight into running such a large operation with the award winning Candy Cloud sweet shop being a particular highlight. In the New Year, volunteers from the DAA will work with the students on some of the skills needed to succeed after education. Over the course of the programme the students will practice job interview skills and receive tips on how to write an eye-catching CV. The group will also return to the airport to spend some time with some of our customer service agents as they go about their work day. Commenting on the 10 years of collaboration between St Finian’s and the DAA, Business in the Community Coordinator Aisling Fleming said “We are delighted to have been involved in this hugely successful partnership and would like to thank everyone from Dublin Airport who has helped out with the programme over the last decade.”6
