Making Maths Fun for Primary Children with Time to Count

Thursday, February 13th, 2020

“Thanks for the beautiful maths”…“I loved playing all the games, even the Time ones!”

That’s music to our ears here in BITCI and those quotes came from two 3rd class children who recently took part in our Time to Count programme.

Isn’t it just magic when you help a child in your community to become more accomplished and more confident in their abilities?

Time to Count is doing just that.  It is an employee engagement opportunity for company volunteers to provide numeracy support to 3rd class children in a local DEIS primary school through the medium of specially chosen numeracy games and activities.

The objectives of the programme are to:

  • Build children’s confidence around numbers
  • Foster children’s enjoyment of number
  • Reinforce children’s conceptual  understanding of number
  • Support the development of children’s flexibility & perseverance in maths problem solving

We would like to acknowledge the leading businesses who have taken part in the first year of the roll out of Time to Count following its pilot. We have seen wonderful impacts come from the programme thanks to the enthusiastic volunteer involvement.
