Business in the Community Ireland

Eleanor Walsh

Walsh is the Assistant Manager of Business Action on Education, a part of Business In the Community Ireland (BITCI);  Ireland’s leading advisers in sustainability and CSR.  She has a PhD in Mathematics from University College Dublin, and worked for many years in third level education as a lecturer and researcher.  She joined BITCI in 2008 as a programme regional coordinator in the Mid-West region, advising and coordinating programmes for companies on their engagement with local post-primary schools.   Part of this work was to facilitate one to one partnerships between schools and companies to increase student retention rates, support school completion and to support school leadership.  In recent years, this has been expanded to working with primary schools.   BITCI offers a portfolio of education and employment programmes for businesses and schools.  These programmes are part of an overall strategy of working with businesses to help build inclusive societies and to make their business more sustainable and play their full part in the communities where they operate.

In 2013, she became Assistant Manager for the Education programmes, having responsibility for the organisations work in all the counties along the Atlantic seaboard.    In 2015, Eleanor was the organisational lead on successfully developing, piloting and rolling out a Time to Count programme – a numeracy initiative with 3rd class children.  She recently presented at the 2nd European Education Summit in Brussels where the work of BITCI was championed as best practice of business and education initiatives in Europe.
