Lionbridge Technologies welcomes Scoil Íosa to their offices!

Second class children from Scoil Íosa, Ballina, Co. Mayo were in for a treat recently when Lionbridge Technologies organised a fabulous work place visit for them as part of their involvement with the Time to Read Programme.22

The visit began in the board room with a talk from Paul McBride, Lionbridge Technologies CEO. He told the children all about the company, what the company does, and how the children could grow up to work at a company like Lionbridge. One of the children said that he would like to have Paul’s job!

Half the children were taken to a room in another building and made a video phone call on a large screen to the remaining children in the Boardroom. The kids loved to see this technology in action, and it demonstrated for them how the employees in the company communicate throughout  the 180 different countries that Lionbridge operates in.

Then it was time to walk around the whole company stopping at the volunteers’ desks and offices, and finding out what sort of work their volunteers did on a daily basis. The children felt very important being introduced to all their volunteers’ colleagues and being able to see the workplace in full flow.

After visiting their volunteers’ desks and offices, the children were  given the chance to play on some of the video games that Lionbridge are responsible for testing, as well as play some ferocious table football! This was a highlight for many of the children.

This was all followed by a delicious lunch provided by Lionbridge, and a walk back to school full of stories and new experiences. Thanks to all of those in Lionbridge Technologies for organising such a fantastic workplace visit for the kids in Scoil Íosa!
