Engage your employees, improve literacy, make an impact on education

Would you like your company to be involved in one of the most impactful employee engagement programmes designed to improve the literacy of Ireland’s young children? Then Time to Read is for you.

Time to Read is a reading programme for children in second class which increases their enjoyment and confidence in reading.

Your company can get involved by signing up and we will train 10-12 volunteers who will then go into a local school once a week for 10 weeks each and listen to the children reading. Your company will also have the opportunity to host the children at work and go to the local library along with their families.

We’ve been running this programme since 2011, and now have 47 companies involved including ESB, Friends First, Elavon, Lionbridge, Irish Life, Gas Networks Ireland and KPMG among others.

This programme has incredible impact on both the children and the adults who take part.

“It is great to get involved with a programme like this as you feel like you are contributing something to the community & to see the enjoyment the children get out of it.” Volunteer from ESB, partnered with Glasheen GNS, Cork.

“I found it rewarding on a personal level and I felt I gave something to the child. In addition, it was a totally different focus each Tuesday, it gave perspective to the day in the office and the opportunity to think outside the box for an hour a week. It was great.” Volunteer from Bank of Ireland, partnered with Scoil Mhuire, Shankill, Dublin 18.

Watch this RTE Nationwide episode featuring Time to Read with the ESB’s CEO, Pat O’Doherty speaking about the business benefits of participation.
