“It is particularly pleasing to be recognised by such a high quality panel of judges from across Europe where we export the majority of our wood and wood panel products and to come out top against such a diverse range of companies. Thanks in particular go to the people of Coillte who deliver on our commitments every day and who are the real winners of this award.”

He also expressed his thanks to the European Business Awards for the honour and to RSM Farrell Grant Sparks in Ireland who nominated Coillte for the initial phase of the awards.

The European Business Awards honour those that promote success, innovation and ethics within the European business community.

The aim of the Awards is:

  • To draw attention to and recognise our best businesses and what they are doing
  • To enable companies of all sizes and industries to compare themselves to and learn from the very best in Europe
  • To stimulate the debate about the future shape, form and substance of the business community in Europe – on a national and Europe wide level

The judges were looking for evidence of a clearly expressed and widely communicated strategy, mainly focusing on actions launched to manage risk and proactively drive improvement from a commercial, environmental, and social responsibility perspective.

According to the judging panel Coillte “shone across the board in its dedication to sustainability, the environment and its local community. It was seen by the judges as an innovator in new products and also demonstrated strong leadership in delivering positive results across all its social, economic and environmental objectives. This year’s winner has shown an impressive commitment to ensuring that the environment it owns is not only protected and preserved but open to everyone in the community to enjoy.”
