BITCI News - Jul 14, 2015

Over €13 million raised and 125,000 Volunteer Hours Donated by Shortlisted Companies

Chambers Ireland has today (14/07/15) announced the shortlist for the 2015 Corporate Social Responsibility Awards. Celebrating their twelfth year, this year’s shortlisted applicants have raised over €13 million and donated over 125,000 volunteer hours.

The Awards are partnered with Business in the Community Ireland, sponsored by BAM Contractors and run in association with the Department of Environment, Community and Local Government.

Announcing the shortlist, Ian Talbot, Chambers Ireland Chief Executive said, “Once again this year we received a record number of applications to the awards. More and more companies are now realising the strategic importance of CSR to their business, evidenced by the fact that just under half of this year’s entrants were new applicants. The money raised and hours donated is just the tip of the iceberg of great work being done by companies across Ireland and we are proud to showcase this work through these awards. I wish all on the shortlist the best of luck.”

Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government, Alan Kelly T.D. continued “The work that companies do to make a difference in their local communities, for their employees and the environment often goes unnoticed. That’s why I am delighted that my Department can support these awards which recognise the contribution of the business community to making Ireland a better place to live and work. I know this year’s applications were of exceptional quality and I congratulate all those on the shortlist.”

Tina Roche, CEO of Business in the Community Ireland added “Business in the Community Ireland, as the network for Corporate Responsibility, congratulates all the shortlisted companies. From our work with both large and small companies in Ireland, we know that celebrating best practice is key as it inspires other companies to look at their own CSR and the impact they can make.  Increasingly, employees and customers want to engage with responsible and sustainable businesses so being shortlisted is a great signal to key stakeholders that you are best in class.”

Theo Cullinane, CEO of BAM Ireland said: “It’s always hugely encouraging to see the calibre and diversity of the projects shortlisted for the CSR Awards and again, this year is no exception. BAM has sponsored the Awards for several years now and as a construction company with operations across Ireland, we are very conscious of the positive impact that businesses can have on local communities and beyond. I wish the best of luck to all organisations shortlisted for the CSR Awards, which is a major achievement to be proud of.”Awards will be presented for Excellence in Community (sub-divided into Partnership with Charity, Community Programme and Volunteering), Environment, Marketplace, Workplace, Communication, International CSR and CSR by an SME. One company will also be presented with the Outstanding Achievement in CSR Award at the ceremony in the DoubleTree Hilton Hotel, Ballsbridge, Dublin 4 on Thursday 3rd September.
