Ricoh Ireland sweeps Salou

Members News - Oct 20, 2017

Ricoh Ireland recently participated in Ricoh’s imagine change Challenge Football Trophy in Salou, Spain. The football tournament was created by Ricoh Europe to bring together all the European OpCos, as part of a series of initiatives that represent the best of the Ricoh brand, and to make a difference in the communities in which we work and live.

Ricoh sees a sustainable society as one that balances planet (the environment), people (society) and profit (our economic activities). At Ricoh, our biodiversity policy and strategies are focused on reducing the adverse impact of our business activities on the natural environment, as well as promoting forest ecosystem conservation projects and employees’ activities aimed at conserving biodiversity. As part of this objective, for every goal scored in the football tournament, Ricoh pledged to plant five trees for the ‘Plant a Tree for Africa’ project. Out of the 70 matches played, 231 shots found the back of the net, which means that Ricoh will plant 1,155 trees in Africa.

Seventeen Ricoh Ireland employees joined over 400 Ricoh EMEA employees for a two-day football tournament at the Futbol Salou venue, situated on the Costa Dorada. Ireland was one of 21 participating teams across the European OpCos.

Ricoh Ireland could not be more proud to be a part of this year’s Ricoh imagine change Challenge Football Trophy. The team had the opportunity to meet and connect with players from many of the different Ricoh EMEA OpCos that they would not otherwise have had the chance to get to know, proving that football does indeed have the power to unite people across borders, cultures and languages. The camaraderie amongst the participating teams and players further highlighted Ricoh’s core values of #winningspirit!

Ricoh Ireland placed 12th overall out of the 21 participating teams. The final round saw Ricoh UK and Ricoh Italy compete against each other for the number one spot. Both teams fared well during the match but neither was able to break the deadlock during normal time, leaving the final score at 0-0. Italy then brought home the trophy after their 3-0 victory on penalties. Ricoh Ireland would like to say well done to all of the Ricoh Ireland employees who got involved and to all of the participating Ricoh EMEA teams. Fingers crossed Ricoh Ireland can bring the trophy home to Ireland next year!
