Microsoft’s Global Skills initiative

Members News - Jul 06, 2020

The COVID-19 pandemic has created an economic crisis, forcing tens of millions of people out of work. As economies start to reopen, some jobs may not come back, at least not fast enough to meet demand. The jobs that do come back will require more digital skills.

In a post-COVID-19 world, all people—especially those from the hardest hit industries and most vulnerable communities-will need to learn new skills to re-join the workforce prepared for in-demand roles in a more digital economy.

That’s why Microsoft, LinkedIn, and GitHub are bringing together the best of our resources to support this recovery, including using data to understand the most in-demand roles, offering learning and certifications for those roles, and equipping job seekers with tools to help them get hired. Partnerships with non-profits and governments will be critical to reaching those most in need to have a greater collective impact.

Our goal is to help 25 million people worldwide who have lost their job due to COVID-19 to reskill for in-demand roles.

Together, we can help people who have lost their jobs due to COVID-19 gain the skills they need to pursue the jobs of today and tomorrow.
