Ireland’s biggest charity shop takeover, BT Shop for Change has succeeded in raising €186,269 for the Irish Cancer Society.

The brainchild of BT Ireland employees, the event, now in its seventh year, saw more than 120 BT Ireland employees swap the office for the charity shop and compete against each other to generate the most sales in one day on October 18th in Irish Cancer Society shops around the country.

From in-store sales, auctions, on-street performances, bucket collections and flash sales, the entrepreneurial teams did everything possible to try and raise as much money as possible to help fund cancer research and support services run by the Irish Cancer Society

In a separate event, over 70 BT employees took part in a gruelling 3 day cycle through Cork and Kerry in September and succeeded in raising €25,000 for the Irish Cancer Society. This brings the total raised to over €210,000.

Mark Mellett, Head of Fundraising, Irish Cancer Society said, “Thanks to BT Ireland staff and everybody who supported the 2018 BT Shop for Change event. This year the BT team created new and innovative ways to collect the best of pre-loved clothes and bric-a –brac; made our shops even more of a haven for bargain hunters and helped deliver record breaking sales. The addition of the cycle events saw them raise over €210,000. These funds will go long way to help ensure we can meet the increasing demands for our free cancer services and also help fund more research to find better ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer in Ireland.”

Shay Walsh, Managing Director, BT Ireland added: “I could not be prouder of our fantastic employees who put months of effort into collecting high value stock to sell on the day and left no stone unturned in their endeavours to succeed. At BT we are committed to using our skills and resources to build a better world and it just shows, when our people get together as a team to achieve a goal, we can do incredible things.

“I would like to sincerely thank our customers, suppliers, the charity shop staff and the local communities for their generosity and support in making 2018 our most successful BT Shop for Change campaign ever.”
