Bold Girls – Bringing strong women to life in children’s literature

BOLD GIRLS, a Children’s Books Ireland initiative, supported by KPMG, aims to break down societal barriers and to instil confidence in girls and young women by showcasing strong female characters in children’s books. The campaign includes twenty female Irish authors and illustrators with stories from Ireland and around the globe, featuring pirates, politicians, ponies, polar bears, pilots, princesses and everything in between. On International Women’s Day KPMG had volunteers from its offices in Dublin, Cork, Galway and Belfast go out to their local schools to read BOLD GIRLS inspired books to students.

KPMG worked with Children’s Books Ireland on developing a specialised schools programme around BOLD GIRLS where KPMG volunteers will work with schools on a four-week programme giving more in-depth discussion in relation to women in literature, women in art, women from history and women who make a difference in society. We are delighted to support the BOLD GIRLS initiative as part of our KPMG Family for Literacy (KFFL) programme – founded to help address childhood illiteracy and to create a unique way for our people to contribute to our communities.
