Community Workshop featuring Thrive CSR

Thursday, October 4th, 2018

On Monday September 24th last, Business in the Community Ireland facilitated a workshop on the topic of managing your community engagement and employee volunteering. The workshop was kindly hosted by Workday in their office on May Lane, Dublin 7.

Attendees discussed their challenges in managing this topic, the existing tools they use and what they potentially need to truly demonstrate their company’s social impact. Some of the key points from that discussion are listed below:

  • There are challenges in terms of communicating to staff who do not have access to email, difficult to highlight opportunities to get involved and also to request them to log hours
  • Conversely, some companies have a challenge in overloading employees with too many communications.
  • Challenge to get colleagues who have a fear of technology to log their hours or sign up to volunteering opportunities
  • Not having an efficient system to manage employee volunteering and tracking and reporting. Most companies are using a basic excel system
  • Challenges in sourcing volunteering opportunities
  • Not having a full-time dedicated resource
  • Opportunity to integrate key learnings from volunteering into performance reviews
  • Securing senior management buy-in to support volunteering, demonstrating the business case

Thrive CSR presented on their software solutions to assist in managing employee volunteering and wider community engagement. Neil Macdonald, CEO, gave a demonstration of the software and answered questions from some of the attendees.
