VENUE: Deloitte, 29 Earlsfort Terrace, Dublin 2
TIME: 10am - 12 noon
Launched in September 2015, the UN adopted the Sustainable Development Goals, (SDGs): a set of 17 goals to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure prosperity for all as part of a new global sustainable development agenda.
The SDGs position business as a vital partner to achieving sustainable development. They call for business to apply its creativity and innovation to solve global economic, social and environmental challenges. The SDGs recognise that while it is not the role of business to solve sustainability challenges, these challenges will not be addressed without business. Their achievement requires a new partnership model between stakeholders such as business, academia, civil society, and government.
As momentum builds and governments worldwide bring in new layers of regulation for reporting on the environment, human rights, climate change, social and governance disclosure, Irish business needs to have an articulated position on the Global Goals, as stakeholders (be they government, customers, employees, civil society) will increasingly demand it.
The challenge before us now is to understand our role in achieving this agenda and to establish tangible actions we can take at a company level and collectively to make this future a reality and move towards a world where more and more sustainable business is more successful.
This event aims to start the conversation on where we are up to in Ireland, what is the scale of the challenge?
How can a business take action? What new partnerships and industry collaboration are necessary and what are the government doing to support this agenda.
