Low Carbon Pledge Knowledge Session #3

Sep 21, 2021

VENUE: Webinar

TIME: 11:00am - 12:00 noon

The topic of this Low Carbon Pledge Knowledge Session is navigating the terminology around net zero, carbon neutral, carbon negative/positive etc. Many sustainability practitioners are getting bogged down by the meanings behind low carbon terminology. Other companies are setting targets using the terminology but don’t fully understand what it entails or believe they can ‘offset’ instead of taking any serious carbon reduction measures. Companies are also getting called out for ‘green-washing’ by going public with these ambitious targets but not being able to back up how they will achieve them.

The purpose of this Knowledge Session will be to break down all the different definitions and make them more understandable for our signatories and hopefully inform the goals of their climate action roadmaps.

Confirmed speakers include:

  • Professor Barry McMullan, School of Electronic Engineering, Dublin City University
  • Aideen O’Dochartaigh, Assistant Professor in Accounting, DCU Business School
  • Stephen Prendiville, Head of Sustainability, EY Ireland
