Boots Ireland is a leading pharmacy-led health and beauty retailer with 87 Boots Ireland stores and our purpose is to help customers look and feel better than they ever thought possible. We are committed to providing exceptional customer and patient care, being the first choice for pharmacy and healthcare and offering innovative products ‘only at Boots’. Established in Ireland since 1996, the Boots brand is at the heart of the communities it serves.
Our partnership with the Irish Cancer Society began back in July 2012 and has evolved over that time as a key element of our CSR programme. What began initially as a fundraising initiative for the Night Nursing service has continued to evolve & grow to include fundraising, volunteering, raising awareness of cancer as well as help in early detection. Current statistics indicate that by 2020 1 in 2 of us will receive a cancer diagnosis within our lifetime.
We introduced two key support roles, our Boots Cancer Beauty Advisor in 2013 – helping patients undergoing cancer treatment to look and feel more like themselves again through offering advice and practical tips on skincare and cosmetics. Our Boots Irish Cancer Society Pharmacist role was introduced in 2015 offering advice on the side effects of treatment as well as signposting to the supports available.
At Boots Ireland we fundraise specifically for the Night Nursing Service which provides up 10 nights free end of life care to cancer patients allowing them to pass away at home surrounded by family and loved ones. In 2017 the Irish Cancer Society provided a total of 7,348 nights to 1,819 patients across the country.
The Irish Cancer Society receive 2% in Government funding and so rely on the support & generosity of the public and companies such as ourselves in helping provide the range of services.
Our fundraising is done through a range of activities including Halloween events, Daffodil Day activities and Night Walks which take place in August with over 30 x 5km walks happening nationwide, as well as a range of in-store activities throughout the year. To date we have raised over €1.47mn over the course of the partnership for the Irish Cancer Society Night Nursing service
( > 4,200 nights of care), with the support of our customers.
Boots Ireland extended their support for the partnership by becoming the main sponsor of Daffodil Day in 2018 (& for a second year in 2019) which is the Society’s largest fundraising initiative.
This partnership supports UN Sustainable Development Goal no. 3
