New Employer Information Disability Service

BITCI News - Aug 25, 2016

Would you like to know more about the range of supports and funding available when recruiting or retaining an employee with a disability? The new Employer Disability Information service is an initiative led by employer bodies Chambers Ireland, Ibec and ISME and is a free resource for employers.

The purpose of the Employer Disability Information service is to provide employers with an expert peer source of advice and information on employing staff with disabilities, with a view to enhancing the confidence and competence of individual employers to employ, manage and retain staff with disabilities. The ultimate aim is to promote increased employment of people with disabilities.

The service is a centrally-based national resource of peer advice and information for employers on employment of people with disabilities.

The service comprises:

  • A helpline on a dedicated phone line providing advice and information to employers on employment of people with disabilities
  • A central web-based information resource incorporating guidance and an FAQ section, which is kept up to date
  • Publicising the service and proactive outreach to employers
  • Using the mainstream channels of the participating organisations to disseminate information on the service and on matters relating to employment of people with disabilities
  • Development of networks and fora for employers to share experiences and good practice

The service have created a survey for employers, to gather information around the perceptions and experiences of business owners and managers with recruiting, employing and retaining people with disabilities. The information received will help the service understand the percentage of employers that already recruit people with disabilities, their experience to date and any learnings that can be shared. It will also identify any queries or concerns from employers.

We appreciate your participation in the survey

The service is managed by a consortium of employer organisations – Chambers Ireland, IBEC and ISME and is funded through the NDA, as part of the comprehensive employment strategy for people with disabilities. It is housed in the ISME office and is coordinated by ISME Senior HR advisor – Deirdre O’ Hanlon See more at:http://www.employerdisabilityinfo.ie
