Tesco Community Fund has donated over €500,000 to local good causes across the country since its launch in July 2014. It is now halfway to sharing a total of €1million to community causes, selected and voted for by Tesco customers.

Tesco NewbridgeSince launching, customers have helped share the fund with almost 2,000 causes including animal shelters, elderly care services, meals on wheels deliveries, intellectual disability support groups, community crèches, local fundraisers, schools, sports clubs and many more.

One of the organisations that received a share of the fund included Newbridge Care Centre. Joan Kiernan, Centre Manager said: “We were delighted to be involved in the Tesco Community Fund initiative. The nomination in our local store has really amplified awareness for our services and increased the community support we receive. We provide a lunch, socialising and bingo for our elderly residents on a daily basis, as well as a Meals on Wheels programme where we deliver 40 meals each week to people who need support in the local area. The funding support from Tesco and the local community is greatly appreciated. As the Tesco tagline says, Every Little Helps”

But Tesco still need your help. With €500,000 left in the Community Fund, the retailer is urging its customers across Ireland to back local causes at the heart of their communities. Every 6 weeks each store donates up to €1000 between three causes. Customers can pick up a blue token at the checkout and vote in their local store.

Customers can also nominate a cause that they feel deserves a token of goodwill. It can be anything from fixing a leaky roof in the local school or clubhouse, to helping the elderly or maintaining the local playground – just drop into your local Tesco store and pick up an application form.

The Tesco Community Fund is just one of a number of programmes run by the retailer to support local communities and good causes. Tesco colleagues have raised over €13million for its charity of the year partners since 2001. Most recently Tesco colleagues have raised €2m for AWARE. Tesco’s 26 community champions collectively dedicate 20,000 hours to community work every year.
