Business & Biodiversity

BITCI News - Uncategorized - Jun 30, 2015

Our first workshop addressing the issue of business and biodiversity took place last week at EirGrid kicking off a new focus within Business in the Community Ireland on this issue.

The workshop was extremely well attended by members working in the area of environment, supply chain, and community engagement highlighting the interest of this issue in business.

In our environmental report published in March 2014 ‘Making consistent impact: Environmental Trends, Best Practice and Supports’ we identified that organisations’ commitment to and action on biodiversity was significantly lagging behind other environmental aspects.

This year we are developing a new service to help our members  protect and enhance biodiversity. This will include developing a framework for action, case studies and events. All organisations can and should take action to protect biodiversity. Whilst for some it is quite obvious as their operations have a direct impact on biodiversity, for others, action may need to be taken as part of supply chain decisions.

The workshop, open to member companies, provided an introduction to biodiversity, it explored how any business can take action on biodiversity and shared some best practice case studies.

Stay tuned for upcoming video highlights and posts from the workshop.
