The award recognizes Abbott’s sustained excellence in the execution of programmes across its six manufacturing sites in Ireland aimed at improving the environmental efficiency and sustainability of its business operations. Abbott previously won the award in 2014 for initiatives designed to reduce waste, water usage and energy consumption across its manufacturing sites in Ireland.

John Kilcoyne, director at Abbott, said, “At Abbott we are committed to reducing our global environmental impacts across our business. We have three environmental priorities – climate change, water usage and waste management – and are focused on achieving ambitious environment goals in these areas by 2020.

“Abbott employees across Ireland are fully engaged in supporting our environmental goals and ambitions, and this is reflected in the achievements of our six manufacturing sites in implementing a range of innovative environmental solutions. This award is a tribute to the efforts of all our employees, and I am delighted to accept it on their behalf.”

The Chambers Ireland Corporate Social Responsibility Awards were established in 2004 to recognise the work being carried out by Irish and multinational companies to improve the lives of their employees and to enhance the civic and physical environment in which they operate.  In recent days, Abbott also was named the leading company in its industry by the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) for the fourth consecutive year. This is one of the most prestigious global benchmarks for corporate sustainability and responsibility. The DJSI leaders are chosen from among 3,400 of the largest companies worldwide, and this is the 12th consecutive year that Abbott has been recognized for sustainability through its inclusion on the Index.  For more information on this honour, please see Abbott’s global news release
