veoliaVeolia has begun a partnership with Thomastown Community River Trust to help restore a natural swimming area within the river Nore at Thomastown, Co. Kilkenny. Once a well used amenity for swimmers and canoeists, the weir was destroyed by floods in 2008 rendering the pool area unfit for purpose. Since then, active local fundraising and vital support from Kilrenny Leader Partnership has enabled volunteers to pursue their goal of restoring the pool to the community. Veolia, whose water business is based in Kilkenny, is providing design and project expertise for an environmentally sensitive filtration system which will enhance water quality within the natural pool for the safety and enjoyment of all the users.

Shem Caulfield, Spokesman for TCRT says of the partnership… “We believe that our swimming area is the largest, purpose-built swimming pool in Ireland, and we are delighted that Veolia have played an instrumental part in making this happen”.

The pool is expected to be opened in Spring 2015.
