Dr Eleanor Walsh, Programme Assistant Manager & Limerick, Clare Regional Coordinator, tells us about a unique and interesting partnership currently taking place that is producing fantastic results….

Limerick Institute of Technology have been partnering with St. Nessan’s Community College since 2006 and this year this partnership continues to grow.

The plan for this year is to complete a mentoring programme with nine of the 6th years (which has been running successfully since last year), a Skills @ Work programme with a group of 5th years and two Management Excellence for Teachers programmes with Limerick IT (Tipperary) staff member Dr. Michael Ryan (Centre for Education and Developing Human Potential).

These programmes are helping to break down the barriers to third level education that previously students of St. Nessan’s Community College had encountered.  Their success can be measured in many ways, not least of which is that there are 17 St. Nessan’s students in first year courses in Limerick IT this year!  The staff of both institutions are thrilled with this, along with the students, who are thriving and delighted to be attending a third level college in their own community.  Success indeed!
