Corrib Natural Gas 2014 Irish Language Summer Scholarship Scheme

BITCI News - Apr 25, 2014

Shell E&P Ireland ltd are pleased to announce details of the 2014 Irish Language Summer Scholarship Scheme, as part of a series of community initiatives for 2014 under the Corrib Natural Gas Erris Development Fund.

The Irish Language Scholarship Scheme provides ten full scholarships for second level students to attend an Irish language summer college course of their choice at any of the colleges providing such services within the Erris region.  The aim of these Scholarships is to promote the use of, and literacy in, the Irish language.   They provide a wonderful opportunity for students to immerse themselves totally in Irish language and culture for up to three weeks in the summer months, within the stunning backdrop of Erris.    The Irish Language Scholarship Scheme was initially launched in 2012, and has provided twenty scholarships to-date, with a further 10 to be awarded in 2014.

Shells Corrib Gas Project lies within the Gaeltacht region of North Mayo, and we recognise both the cultural and economic importance of the Irish language  to the Erris region, and indeed nationally.   This initiative forms part of our focus on education as a key pillar in our CSR activities, and  is also  part of our overall objective to contribute to the long term economic, social, environmental and cultural development of the Erris region.
