BITC Ireland’s EPIC programme wins the AONTAS STAR Award for Adult Learning Initiatives that promote Social Inclusion

The STAR Awards (Showcasing Teamwork, Awarding Recognition) are an awards initiative coordinated by AONTAS as part of the annual Adult Learners’ Festival to acknowledge the fantastic work undertaken by adult learning initiatives throughout Ireland.

More than 70 initiatives entered the awards, shortlisted to 22 over six categories.The awards celebrate the positive contribution that these initiatives make to individual adult learners, local communities and wider society.



 

Accepting the award, Caitriona Mac Aonghusa, EPIC Programme Coordinator stated:

“We are delighted that the EPIC programme has won an Aontas STAR award in the category “Adult Learning Initiatives that promote Social Inclusion”.  Supports from the business are crucial to the success and impact of the EPIC programme.  We’d like to thank our key business partners – BT, CPL, Accenture and Enterprise Rent-a-Car – for their tremendous and continuing help over many years.  We wouldn’t have won this without you!”

The winners of the 11th annual AONTAS STAR  awards were announced at a luncheon hosted by Marty Morrissey in Dublin on Monday the 6th of March. This year’s winners for each category are:

  • Adult Learning Initiatives that Promote Wellbeing: “Mentor Support for Cancer Patients”
  • Adult Learning Initiatives that Promote Digital Inclusion: “Supporting Communities Digital Inclusion Project”
  • Adult Learning Initiatives that Promote Social Inclusion: “BITC Ireland’s EPIC programme.”
  • Adult Learning Initiatives that Promote The Learner Voice:  “SAOL Project”
