Alkermes Milestone is a First for the Midlands

This year marks the 10th Anniversary of our partnership between Alkermes and St Aloysius College in Athlone. Alkermes becomes the first company in the Midlands to achieve this status. Alkermes who are based in a business park just outside town develops and manufactures medicines, aiming to provide innovative treatments for major conditions of the central nervous system. Its tag line is “Science with a Purpose”.
As a partner in the Skills @ Work programme Alkermes has opened its doors to the students of the nearby St. Aloysius College, enthusiastically taking the time to engage with many a 5th year class , showing them the range of opportunities available in the pharma industry. It is fitting that such a significant achievement as a 10 year association will be celebrated this year as the partnership prepares to change its focus to reflect the new dynamics of the school from the next academic year. In 2017/18 the school will merge with St Joseph’s College Summerhill, and relocate to a new site, with a new name and management structure. Certainly the experiences of the executives in Alkermes in change management should prove useful in this regard with Alkermes Athlone having gone through a merger with Elan in 2011.
