Training and Employment Officer - Midlands/Portlaoise Prison Complex
We require a person with proven experience of working with the socially excluded in a variety of settings to fill this post. Ideally, applicants will hold a qualification recognised by the Irish Career Guidance Association, be educated to degree level, have at least one to two year's relevant work experience with prisoners/ex-offenders and, have a sound knowledge and understanding of the criminal justice system and the resettlement process. We are seeking to recruit self-starters, who are good leaders and listeners, and who have excellent interpersonal skills.
The Training and Employment Officer will assist prisoners by:
- Assisting Irish Prison Service staff by assessing the ‘job-readiness' of selected clients.
- Developing realistic career path plans with individual offenders
- Securing appropriate employment / training / educational opportunities in the community for prisoners on their release
- Supporting a multi-D team within the prison
- Providing after-placement support to both employers and clients

A relevant third level qualification, while not essential is desirable
One or more years experience of working with the target group
Teamwork experience
A good understanding of the Irish Criminal Justice System, prisoner resettlement and the desistance processes
A good knowledge of community and voluntary groups
A good general knowledge of semi-state and other agencies providing support or training services for marginalized groups
Knowledge of the Irish employment market and training and employment opportunities.
