Criminal Justice Mentor

Since its inception in 2000, the mission of Business in the Community Ireland (BITCI) is to harness the power of Irish business to maximise its positive impact on all its stakeholders. It is a non-profit organisation specialising in advice and guidance to leading companies on corporate responsibility and corporate community involvement. BITCI is also the national partner in Ireland for CSR Europe, the co-ordinating body on corporate responsibility at a European level.

A business driven network, with major social initiatives, BITCI’s membership is drawn from Ireland’s most progressive companies. BITCI has the unique expertise to train and develop capacity on corporate responsibility within organisations; to improve their companies’ reputation, competitiveness and profitability through communicating their social, environmental and community management impacts.

Created in 2009, The Resettlement Mentoring Service is a project managed by BITC in partnership with The Irish Prison Service.  The aim of the project is resettlement and reintegration, achieved through providing a one-to-one resettlement planning and support service for prisoners.  Resettlement Mentoring identifies each prisoner’s individual needs and resources in the resettlement process, which can involve accessing benefits, housing, supports for addiction and mental health issues, as well as training, education and work.  The primary objective of Resettlement Mentoring is the reintegration of ex-prisoners back into the family and community, depending on what is appropriate. In all cases it involves the identification of and access to necessary services in the community.

Currently there are Mentors assigned to support prisoners in the Cork, Castlerea and Mountjoy prisons. We are seeking applications from suitable candidates for the following post;

Mentor – Training Unit, Mountjoy Prison

Candidates for the post of Mentor will have;

  • A third Level qualification in Social Care or similar
  • One or more years experience of working with the Target Group
  • A thorough understanding of the Target Group
  • Teamwork experience
  • Experience/ knowledge of techniques for motivating change on a one-to-one basis such as CBT, Narrative, Choice Theory etc.
  • Knowledge of The Irish Criminal Justice System, Prisoner Resettlement Work and Desistance Processes

Applications will be welcomed from candidates with exceptional experience but who do not possess formal qualifications.

Please note: 

  1. Access to transport for business is essential
  2. Interviews for this post will take place in Dublin on Monday, February 13th 2012  
  3. Salary is in the region of   €32,000 - €33,770, depending on qualifications and experience
  4. The Mentoring Service is funded until the end of June 2012, this role will continue subject to funding thereafter

In 2011 Business in the Community Ireland launched the Business Working Responsibly (BWR) Mark; this is the Membership Services Team’s flagship initiative for raising standards of responsible business practice in Ireland and is Irelands first independently audited Corporate Responsibility Quality Mark. The BWR Mark is the key focus of the organisation’s 2012-2014 strategy, and the Corporate Responsibility Team Manager will play a lead role in promoting the BWR Mark and embedding it in our service offering. 

Reporting to the CEO, the Corporate Responsibility Team Manager will lead and manage a high performing team of individuals who are highly motivated, creative and passionate about responsible, sustainable business practices. 

We are looking for a person with proven experience of operating at a senior management level, who believes and understands the business case underlying Corporate Responsibility.

Responsibilities include:

•Development and implementation of strategic plans
•Ongoing review of strategic and action plans
•Member service development, recruitment and retention strategy
•Management of all staff on the Membership Services team
•Management of Financial Resources
•Effective Communications internally and externally
•Development and maintenance of relationship with key stakeholders
•Strategic support to members and account managers
We are looking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated and experienced leader to join our team.

Essential:

•5 + years of team management experience in a high performing environment with a focus on employee development
•7 - 10 years experience of driving the Corporate Responsibility agenda in an organisational/ business setting at a senior level
•A thorough knowledge of Corporate Responsibility
•Educated to degree level in a relevant discipline
•Strong leadership capability and experience including operating at a senior management level
•A good applied working knowledge of strategy and operational management and its importance to the successful operation of an organisation and the attainment of its goals
•Thorough knowledge and understanding of the various sectoral networks and civil society organisations in Ireland
•Knowledge of business operations and sustainability and responsibility issues that are relevant to Irish companies and internationally, including measurement of non-financial performance, strategy, communications, international and domestic standards and voluntary labels
•A good understanding of change management processes as applied to business
•Relationship management at a senior stakeholder level (e.g. with Board of Directors, Government)
Preferred:

•Knowledge of stakeholder engagement principles and models in large businesses with multiple audiences including the AA1000 engagement guidelines model
